MIDDLE SCHOOL ART

Students are graded based on how well they follow the criteria for the assignment, craftsmanship and how much time and effort they put into each piece they create.  I use rubrics for assessment and I also allow the students to assess themselves.  Participation in group critiques and discussion is also weighed into the final grade.  I do not base my grading on the child's ability to draw or paint. Ability is a great thing to have and be further nurtured, but raw talent alone isn't what art is entirely about.
